Brief About Hessarghatta
Hessarghatta is a scenic location at 30 kilometers to the north west of Bangalore. In karnataka state of India (GPS Coordinates: 13 9' 19"N, 77 27'50" E). Hessarghatta is known for huge lake and organizations related to agriculture. And Animal Husbandry activities. Green campus is the neighborhood for all institutions.

Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture established Regional Poultry Farm during
1959-60 with an objective of acclimatizing and multiplying the exotic strains of WLH poultry. This farm was renamed as Central Poultry Breeding Farm (CPBF) with the main objective for scientific poultry breeding programme during
1970. Further a Random Sample Poultry Performance Testing Centre was also established during
1970 at Hessarghatta for layer and broiler varieties of genetic stock.
A High Level In-service Training Institute for Poultry was established during
1972 with an objective of imparting advanced and specialized training courses in different disciplines of Poultry Production, developing and standardization of poultry products, assess and monitor the quality of poultry and other livestock feeds etc., During
1975, this name was changed to Central Training Institute for Poultry Production and Management and further renamed as Central Poultry Training Institute during July,
1986
Government of India established the Central Duck Breeding Farm, during
1981 with the technical collaboration of Govt. of United Kingdom for production and supply of layer and meat type of ducks across the country.
During
1995 a scientific Turkey Farm with the stocks of Broad Breasted Large White (pure line) and Broad Breasted Large Bronze ( pure line ) was newly established
converting the facilities of erstwhile RSPPTC. Further, during
2007 a pilot project on Emu production was also established. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Turkey and Emu units seized to function from Oct.
2012.
The
Government of India, Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Animal Husbandry Dairying & Fisheries, with a view to optimum utilization of the staff and infrastructure facilities, decided to restructure the Central Poultry Units located at Hessaraghatta.
Accordingly, the four Central Poultry Institutions namely
- Central Poultry Training Institute
- Central Poultry Breeding Farm
- Central Duck Breeding Farm
- Random Sample Poultry Performance Testing Centre located at Hessaraghatta, have been merged to set up the CENTRAL POULTRY DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (SOUTHERN REGION) during June, 2003.
Again the
CENTRAL POULTRY DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (SOUTHERN REGION) is renamed as CENTRAL POULTRY DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION & TRAINING INSTITUTE during February, 2010, in order to incorporate the training activities in the name of this establishment.
